Northwest Montana's newest Cross-Country Ski Center is Stillwater Nordic, located 8 miles northwest of Whitefish. Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and in the shadow of Glacier National Park, Stillwater Nordic is the perfect cross country ski area for all ability levels. Beginning from Stillwater Mountain Lodge, 20 kilometers of groomed cross country ski trails wind through old growth forests, roll over ridge tops and meander along lakeshores. Trails are groomed for Skate-Skiing, with a track set on the side for Classic or "Diagonal Stride." We've even included 3.5 kilometers of "dog-friendly" trail, allowing you and your four-legged friend to get your heart rates up - or try ski-joring with your hound. (Dog owners are asked to keep their dogs under control and trails clean.)
Trail grooming is accomplished daily with state-of-the-art equipment. A Yellowstone Track System groomer is pulled with a four-stroke Yamaha VK Professional snowmobile, reducing noise and emissions in the pristine area.
Snowshoeing and off-trail skiing are permitted activities, with plenty of "off the beaten path" opportunities and stunning vistas. We ask that snow-shoers and hikers stay off of groomed Nordic trails.
